LIBRARY SECTIONS:
Technical Section
The technical section for processing, organizing, and preparing library materials—such as books and journals—for user access after acquisition. Key functions include classification, cataloging, physical processing, shelving, and automation, acting as the crucial link between procuring materials and making them available for circulation
Reading Section
Dedicated areas designed for browsing and studying, often categorized into specialized sections like General books, subject books, reference books and specialized collections.
Librarians facilitate reading by helping users navigate materials, assisting with research queries, and providing access to both physical and digital resources.
Reference Section
The reference section in a library is a specialized, non-circulating collection of informational materials designed for quick consultation, research, and in-depth study. It provides immediate access to authoritative resources like GATE Books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and handbooks.
Stack Room Section
Responsible for the systematic storage, maintenance, and retrieval of books and materials. Materials are arranged in the stacks following a classification system (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification - DDC) for easy identification, often indicated by a unique shelf-mark. Includes shelving books, re-shelving returned items, shelf reading, shifting collections, and dust cleaning.
Circulation Section
The circulation section, often located near the entrance, is the central hub for managing library material lending (charging) and returns (discharging). It acts as a primary service point, handling user registration, renewals, reservations, and fine collection. This section maintains accurate inventory control and usage statistics, bridging the library's collection with its users
Digital Library Section
A digital library section manages organized, electronic collections of digital objects—documents, images, audio, and video—accessible to library working hours in over the networks. This section focuses on digitizing content, metadata creation, and providing remote, simultaneous access, often serving as a hybrid, virtual, or specialized repository for research and learning
